Blackpool vs Oxford United: EFL League One Match Preview
As the season enters the third week, both Blackpool F.C. and Oxford United F.C. are unbeaten in the league, and will be full of confidence when they meet at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.
Oxford heads into the game following a 1-0 home win against Peterborough United, which followed a highly creditable opening day draw at Sunderland A.F.C.. Their experienced manager Karl Robinson, who has already nine years of Football League management under his belt despite still being only 38 years of age, has recently signed a new contract to extend his stay at the Kassam Staudium. He appears to be in a settled place, and this season will be looking to have his club making a push towards the top half of the table.
Players To Watch For Oxford United
On the field, attacking options look good, including the talented Tariqe Fossu, the guile and experience of Scotland International Jamie Mackie, and the loan signing of Ben Woodburn from Liverpool. Woodburn who is just 19 years of age, has already won 10 international caps for Wales. He has numerous first team appearances to his name at Anfield, and it appears that Oxford will be the perfect club to progress his career.
A point of interest for our readers in the U.S., is a player who is currently on loan from Columbus Crew SC, combo defender/midfielder Chris Cadden, who is also a full Scottish International.
Players To Watch For Blackpool
It will a tough proposition for Blackpool to maintain their place atop the table this week. They have earned a maximum six points from their opening two games, and have a league best +5 goal difference. However, even at home, getting another 3 points will not be easy, as Oxford appears to be an improved club from the one that finished 12th in the table last season.
Both of their established strikers Nathan Delfouneso and Armand Gnanduillet have goals to their name already, and more of the same will be needed this week. Their 3-1 away win at Southend United F.C. last weekend was a statement on the road. Manager Simon Grayson will be looking to make another one this week, and will if the Tangerine Men can take another maximum points haul in front of what should be a big crowd at Bloomfield Road.
